Massage

Massage offers so much more than relaxation; it can nurture our body, mind and spirit. Regular therapeutic massage supports a wide range of physical and emotional needs, helping you feel more balanced, restored, and energised.

As human beings, we’re wired for connection, and touch plays an important role in our wellbeing, with increasing medical evidence showing its value. Our skin is full of receptors that respond to different kinds of pressure, sending signals that calm, comfort, and restore. When touch is given with care and kindness, it can have a profoundly positive impact.

By relaxing taut muscles, massage enables the whole body and mind to relax. Massage is a direct and powerful form of communication that shows care and provides comfort at times when words are inadequate. Massage is one of the easiest ways of maintaining good health and the ideal way of reducing stress, whether physical or emotional.

Massage Therapist Debra Ridout is the founder and owner of Shanti Rooms and has more than 20 years of experience as a massage therapist. She offers several different styles of massage and tailors each treatment to match your needs in the moment.

  • This is one of the most popular massage treatments at Shanti Rooms.

A back, neck, and shoulder massage is a wonderful way to release built-up tension and give your body the care it deserves. By focusing on areas where stress most often collects, this treatment helps you unwind, de-stress, and restore a greater sense of balance and well-being.

One of the main benefits is the soothing relief it provides for tight, overworked muscles. Knots and strains in the back, neck, and shoulders are gently eased, reducing discomfort and encouraging the body to feel lighter and more relaxed. This release can also bring comfort to those who struggle with tension-related headaches, offering a natural way to find relief.

Improved posture is another positive outcome. Many of us spend long hours at desks or looking down at our phones, which can lead to imbalances in the upper body. By relaxing and lengthening these muscles, massage supports better alignment, making it easier to stand tall and move with ease.

Flexibility and freedom of movement also improve with regular treatments. The loosening and gentle stretching of muscles reduce stiffness, making everyday activities feel smoother and less restricted. Alongside this, improved circulation delivers fresh oxygen and nutrients to the muscles, boosting energy, supporting recovery, and leaving you feeling revitalized.

Altogether, a back, neck, and shoulder massage not only soothes the body but also lifts the mind, creating a calming space to recharge and restore your natural vitality.

  • CBD massage is a traditional massage using CBD oil, and it is incredibly beneficial for pain and inflammation.

It can help reduce pain and inflammation in conditions such as arthritis, multiple sclerosis, fibromyalgia, and neuropathic pain.

Massage therapy has many benefits, including helping you feel relaxed, reducing pain and soreness, reducing joint inflammation, stimulating your circulation and improving your sleep.

  • This massage is based on Osho’s bodywork and is a combination of energy healing, deep tissue, myofascial work and meditative relaxation.

It helps release energy blocks with conscious touch, joint release, yoga stretches and deep tissue release. This profound work reaches beyond muscles and bones with a combination of soft and deep strokes that will leave you feeling more grounded and energised.

  • Do you suffer from aches and pains?
Would you like the support of touch?
Do you hold tension in the body?
Do you need time out to relax the body and mind?

Then a holistic (whole) massage could be for you.

Emotional, mental and physical tension is stored in the muscle tissue, and massage applied to the soft tissue encourages the muscular and nervous systems to relax, helping release stress and tension and waste products caught in the muscle tissue are eliminated more quickly. Massage has a subtle yet profound influence on all the systems of the body, as it encourages and supports the body’s own healing powers, stimulating the release of endorphins and producing an alpha state in which the body and mind are totally relaxed. It awakens, encourages and supports the body’s own healing powers. Muscular tension is often the physical form of emotional stress, anxiety and depression.

The most commonly affected area is the tension triangle from the base of the skull down the neck and between the shoulder blades. Discomfort, burning pain and stiffness in the muscles all indicate the need for muscular relaxation.

  • A full body massage is a top-to -oe treatment starting with the back of the legs, moving up to the back, neck and shoulders, fronts of the legs and feet, abdomen, arms and hands and finishing with a slow, gentle face and head massage. Massage naturally relaxes the nervous system, which slows the heart rate to help to lower blood pressure, increases blood circulation, brings fresh oxygen and nutrients to the whole body, aids lymphatic drainage, which boosts immune function, and reduces the release of stress and pain hormones whilst encouraging the production of endorphins, our feel-good hormones. The therapeutic properties of touch alone can produce feelings of comfort and wellbeing, reduce anxiety and encourage a restful night’s sleep.

  • This ‘Loving Touch’ massage incorporates the Hawaiian concept of aloha, which means love, unification and breath, and promotes personal harmony. In modern practice, massage is given with love and intention.

What to Expect during a Lomi Lomi Massage
I begin the session by placing my hands gently on you and remaining still for a few moments while you take deep breaths. Sometimes traditional chants and music may be incorporated.

The body is more uncovered during Lomi Lomi massage than Swedish or deep tissue massage. This is so I can massage more than one part of your body at a time. This massage is performed with long, flowing motions that could start at the top of your shoulder and go all the way to the foot. I use massage sheets in the usual way, just uncovering larger areas of your body at any one time.

Lomi Lomi massage is enjoyed for its long, flowing strokes using the forearms and generous quantities of oil. Gentle stretches and joint rotations are common, and at times I may massage two areas of your body at the same time. Sometimes using one hand or forearm on your shoulder while simultaneously massaging a hip with the forearm. This helps release physical tension as well as mental, emotional and spiritual blockages.

Massaging two areas at the same time with the long, flowing strokes is thought to promote harmony and balance within the body. Traditional Lomi Lomi massage includes abdominal massage. Hawaiian tradition considers the colon part of a person’s soul or heart.

The physical benefits of this massage are the same as other types of massage in terms of relaxing muscles, promoting circulation and releasing blocked energy.

  • Thai foot massage is an invigorating, revitalising yet deeply relaxing treatment that focuses on the feet and lower legs. The treatment combines different techniques, which includes stimulating reflex points on the sole of the feet with a pointed stick.

Thai foot massage works by opening the Sen energy lines in the body. This encourages better flow of ‘chi’ (life force energy) and generally stimulates the internal organs.

Along with the usual benefits of massage, this may be particularly helpful with increasing energy and encouraging more efficient waste removal. The treatment could also reduce headaches, migraines, constipation, tension and anxiety.

Thai foot massage is a general treatment to support your health; it embraces the Eastern philosophy of taking a preventative approach to health. In other words, it is best to have treatment while you are healthy to help you remain that way.

This treatment is performed with you lying flat on your back or semi-reclined on a massage bed. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended to be worn.

  • If you’re struggling with symptoms of menopause, this massage can help to decrease anxiety and depression, increase energy levels, help with hot flushes, alleviate physical and emotional stress and help with sleep, amongst many other benefits.

The blend of aromatherapy oils used will be specifically tailored to your individual symptoms.

  • Marma therapy is an ancient Indian practice which focuses on the manipulation of subtle energy (prana) in the body for the purpose of supporting the healing process.

Unlike other systems of massage, Ayurveda doesn’t rely purely on the massage strokes themselves. The therapeutic benefits are enhanced by the use of medicated oil. When medicated oils are used, it has an incredibly powerful impact on physiology.

Therefore, this massage can be effective for pain relief, i.e. migraine headaches or to help manage the symptoms of menopause, including anxiety and depression, insomnia, and hair loss.
