Yoga Classes

Shanti Rooms is your local yoga studio here in the heart of Chandlers Ford. We offer Hatha, Yin and Yoga Nidra. Our classes are suitable for all abilities and everyone is welcome.

I love connecting with nature, and I love the physical practice of yoga and the subtle aspects of bringing awareness to the sensations in your body. Yoga enables you to cultivate awareness in your everyday living. If I’m not doing yoga, I am researching new methods of training to bring the benefits of the most recent thinking to my classes and bodywork. I aim to assist people to move through their day with more grace and ease and enjoy times of stillness in the mind. I look forward to welcoming you to one (or more) of my classes.

If you don’t see any bookable yoga classes due to an ongoing course, feel free to reach out at info@shantirooms.co.uk to ask about current availability.

Somatic Yoga

A person in black leggings is in a yoga pose on a black mat, hands and one knee on the ground, with a beige object nearby.

Somatic Yoga is a gentle, mindful practice that invites you to slow down and reconnect with your body in a compassionate way. Through gentle, guided movements, we explore how to release long-held patterns of tension and rediscover a natural sense of ease and comfort in how we move and feel.

Rather than striving for perfect poses or focusing on strength and alignment, Somatic Yoga encourages you to tune in and listen to your body’s own wisdom. Each movement becomes an opportunity to notice, soften, and move with greater awareness. Over time, the nervous system learns to let go of unnecessary effort and choose calm, fluid movement instead of stiffness or guarding.

This practice is deeply restorative and nurturing, a space to unwind, breathe, and come home to yourself. It can help ease physical discomfort, calm the mind, and support a balanced, more relaxed way of being, both on and off the mat.

Yin Yoga

Yin Yoga is a slow-paced and meditative style of yoga that emphasises holding poses for longer periods of time, typically between 3 to 5 minutes or even up to 20 minutes. The focus is on stretching the connective tissues in the body, such as ligaments, tendons, and fascia, rather than targeting the muscles like other forms of yoga.

The practice of Yin Yoga is based on the concept of yin and yang, which represent opposing energies in the body.

Yin represents the stable and grounding aspects, while yang represents the active and dynamic aspects.

Yoga Nidra

Yoga Nidra is an ancient Indian relaxation technique that aims to release the body and mind from stress. The word Nidra translates to sleep, but Yoga Nidra is a different kind of sleep that facilitates the release of worries and promotes a more blissful and higher quality of rest. It also allows for deep psychological release and complete body relaxation.

During the practice of Yoga Nidra, the conscious mind relaxes, and deeper levels of the mind and unconscious states awaken. This allows for the release of the body, its senses, and the mind to their natural function, while also awakening another sense that only perceives wholeness, tranquillity, and well-being.

Yoga Nidra is a simple process that is taught while lying down, guided by a yoga teacher. All you need to do is rest comfortably and allow yourself to be guided through the practice. This makes it a great option for anyone seeking an easy form of meditation for everyday well-being.
